Uber Entertainment tugs at our nostalgia string by announcing Planetary Annihilation. Jon Mavor, CTO of Uber Entertainment, worked on Total Annihilation back in 1997 and thought that it would be an awesome idea to update the RTS and make it even more awesome. Rather than just nuking your enemies mechs, they hint that you’ll actually be able to fly an asteroid into your opponent’s base to take them and the entire planet out.
Uber Entertainment is looking to crowd fund the project through Kickstarter. You can check out the campaign page right here.
This is where everything starts to get amusing. As many of you know, Jeff and I swore up and down that we would never back a Kickstarter Campaign for various reasons – just listen to some of the older shows. Well, Jeff and I already decided to hand Uber Entertainment our money for this one because we both loved Total Annihilation. So why not, am I right? If there were any company to get us to go against our words, it would be Uber Entertainment.
We are looking forward to seeing where this goes, and how this will develop. We know that Uber can pull this off and make it awesome. As John Comes says in the kickstarter video, “We aren’t shooting for realism, we are shooting for awesome.” And you know that we will be talking to Uber sometime in the future.
