After many lengthy meetings and what have you, we decided to go back to the basics and we come out all snarky.
This week on the show we have Jeff, Ian (Finners), Jen, and Luke (Xeserox).
This week’s topics include:
Luke’s response about complaints Square Enix is not re releasing Final Fantasy VII on Steam
Our Thoughts on “Ouya” and their kickstarter (Which at the time of publishing this, they are up to 3.1 Million USD)
Penny Arcade’s Kickstarter
Battlefield 3 Premium “problems”
Steam Sales and the Price of Gaming
Intro of Closing Music thanks to Zack Parrish, check out all his work on his sound cloud.

*wince* I wish that you guys were following the Penny Arcade Kickstarter a little closer before recording.
I’ll admit to being puzzled at first as to what PA are up to. The problem is that they buried the lead. Gabe wrote a post that explains what they hope to achieve in removing ads: http://penny-arcade.com/2012/07/11/updated-kickstarter If they led with this, I think that there would be fewer questions.
Also, here’s a great article on PA & KS: http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/7/11/3151088/penny-arcade-kickstarter (There are also article on Business Week and Forbes that seem to have fair, but less complete discussion on the matter).
I am really looking forward to seeing more content from PA. their digressions from the titular comic are always excellent.
Actually, even with this info, I’m sticking by my statement- I don’t believe this is the appropriate use for KS, and the fact that it’s going to be a yearly “telethon” type of KS rankles me a bit. I’m really glad you took the time to post and I respect your opinion (as you well know), but we’re gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. If people want to support them, more power to ‘em- I’m just not in that camp.
I can agree to disagree, but It was a view that I think people should know so they can make up their own minds.
I’m going to have to disagree with you Stephen. As a podcaster myself I would like to know; What is the point in always being neutral?
As well as it being impossible (to always be neutral when podcasting) I think the reason we listen to podcasts is to find out about the OPINIONS and VIEWS of those that are hosting the podcast.
Listeners can still make up their own mind, just because a podcaster gives an opinion does not mean that EVERY listener must then take that as gold standard and have that view themselves. People will make up their own mind regardless.
I’m not in that camp either, I agree with Jeff, the use of KS with this is a stupid idea that is fast becoming too familiar.
Great conversation here, guys- Anyone else have thoughts on this they want to share?
Steve, I see what you’re getting at about mentioning both sides of an issue- but I really think THAT’s what these comments threads are for in this case. I like the idea of the show being a place where discussions START, which can then be expanded on here on the site- In fact, if people want to contribute opinion pieces, I’d LOVE to see that kind of feedback!
