This week on the show, Jeff and Xeserox sit down and crush the hopes and dreams of gamers.
Modern Warfare 3 Review (if you want to call it that)
Awesome Battlefield 3 moments
PETA attacks a 25 year old video game cultural icon, and we attack back.
We talk about PR mistakes that Bethesda is making
If we don’t get some hate mail from this episode, we didn’t do our jobs!

This was absolutely humorous to listen to
I completely agree with MW3 review – Battlefield 3 is the way to go
And also, listening to it again while doing a project for class haha You two are seriously entertaining haha I also find the PETA thing for Super Mario 3D Land is downright beyond ridiculous and you two were absolutely great on the topic of it hahaha PETA also attacked Cooking Mama in the past for not being Vegetarian or something haha Great job you guys
Ditto about what everyone else said. Freaking hilarious. PETA should know better than to attack Mario for no reason. I mean it’s a Tanooki suit from a mythical creature that doesn’t actually exist.
Thanks so very much for listening- Glad you enjoyed the program! Tell your friends! I forgot that PETA went after Cooking Mama- I’m waiting for the attack on Farmville because it “exploits animals.”
Great episode, thanks for making it!
Great show guys, just started listening and really enjoyed it! But you are right, you are going to get a fiery response. Just to preface this, I am not a COD fanboy, I love BF as well, and if my PC could run it I would get BF3. However, Jeff; I’m having a hard time taking what you said about MW3 seriously. Treyarch?!?! Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games put out MW3, not Treyarch. I will admit that COD is pretty heavily scripted, and sometimes it can be a little annoying, but personally I don’t mind it because otherwise I will easily get lost and not know what to do if a game is to open. And as for the “story holes”, if you had at least read up on the story from MW2 there wouldn’t be those “holes”. Why did the Russians attack New York, and not Europe? OH, maybe because Europe didn’t “attack” Russia?! And wait a minute! Looking at a map, holy cow! It appears that Russia just might border on the North Atlantic! So troop transports can go directly from Russia to New York. Or there is this kind of little known mode of transportation, called an airplane, I’ve heard that occasionally troops have been moved in them once in a blue moon. As to why Russia attacked the U.S., the reason lies in the No Russian level. You play as a U.S. soldier who has gone deep undercover to infiltrate a Russian terrorist group. The whole point of the level is you are proving your loyalty to the group by going on a mission with them, and it turns out you are attacking a airport. You can’t break your cover, so you have to go along with it. Yet, at the end of the attack it turns out that the leader has found you out, and kills you and leaves you at the scene, so the Russians think that the U.S. attacked the airport, which is why they attack the U.S. And New York is the biggest city in the U.S. so it is logical that would be one of the first few places they strike, along with D.C.. Sorry if I am really sarcastic, it really annoys me when people go off on a game when they only have half the information. And Xes, how is it that when other developer/companies use the same graphics engine for two or three games it’s all “Oh, they are doing a great job! They keep working on improving what they can get out of their engine!” But when Activision uses the same engine for multiple games it’s “Why are they using the same engine for multiple games?!? Why aren’t they using a new one?!?” It seems to be a double standard, just like the one Jeff mentioned for the build standards for big and small developers. Which I agreed with pretty much everything you said there Jeff, I though you were right on the money. And maybe there should be a PETA skin in Mario, so he can take and tell everyone that he will help all the animals, then go out back and kill all the animals.
Overall I really enjoyed the show, and I will be definitely listening to more.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond. My bad about Treyarch- I thought I read they worked on this one… bad intel costs lives… My only point about the plot holes is this- It’s going to be fairly difficult for Russia to invade NY FIRST. Aircraft would have to get across the US and Canada, and ships would have to deal with getting across the Atlantic-
Um, New York City is right on the Atlantic Ocean, you do realize that the attack came from the east, not from the west coast. If I remember correctly, a formation of Russian bombers struck first, they were thought to be just a flight of U.S. plains when they first showed up on radar, and it was also a surprise because they had gotten control of some part of the early warning system, so they were able to get in close without being detected. And I believe the Russian transport planes had the troops on the ground by the time the strike had been made. And crossing the Atlantic in modern times isn’t really that difficult, this isn’t WWII where the German subs are sinking the shipping trying to cross. And by the time that the Russian troops have taken New York City the Russian fleet has arrived. And they would not have to fly across Canada at all. So really, there isn’t that great a difficulty for the invasion when you realize that they are not invading from Siberia.
Hey guys, great episode! Not offensive at all, but than again I’m mostly into indie, retro and lower-key games.
I have played some COD games in the past and found them very hard to enjoy, mainly because of such a obvious lack of freedom/exploration and that stupid “war-f-yeah” mentality, which, for someone who’s childhood was highly influenced and quite possibly destroyed by war (I’m from Croatia) is highly offensive. If they wanted to make a statement against war, they could have send that message across with much more subtlety. But for all I can see, that was never their intention. Anyway, I’m rumbling here, sorry for that. I’m just sad that this kind of auto-pilot games with such sick attitude are worshiped and supported by many.
Thanks for your awesome podcast and all interviews with indie developers, I love those
Cheers and all best!

We got one- go ahead and click it!
I’ve never thought about it from that perspective MM- It’s true- there’s definitely a “war is bad— except it’s really fun to blow stuff up” mentality to those games. I think that’s why I prefer ArmA and to a lesser extent the Tom Clancy Ghost Recon games- the storylines seem to be more of a “we need to get this done” rather than “WhoooooOO!” It is a sad reflection, but I don’t think many people pay attention to story when they’re playing FPSs- they just want stuff to “blow up pretty.”
I’m glad you enjoy the show!
